Brewdog 5am Saint (5%)

Whilst doing some shopping in Morrisons on Sunday I wandered down the beer aisle to see if they had got any new or interesting beers in, unfortunately this usually ends in disappointment as they rarely have anything new or exciting, the last one I remember was Sierra Nevada Pale Ale which they started stocking a few weeks back.

Brewdog 5.a.m Saint beer review and tasting notes on beer blog

Probably the best beer on sale at morrisons.

Much to my amazement and delight this week they introduced a few bottles from the Brewdog range, Including Punk IPA,Trashy blonde and the rather delicious 5am Saint. They were all priced at a rather tasty £1.59 per bottle and stood out a mile next to all of the standard bottles of beer.

I decided it would be rude not to buy a couple of bottles of 5am Saint as it’s my favourite of the 3. I then rang my dad to tell him and he promptly visited the store and cleared the shelves…nice one dad.

So what’s 5am Saint like?? It’s a deep ruby red with a huge head that has a hint of yellow in it. The aromas are huge, Citrus zest, deep rich malt and a hint of sugar.

The flavours are even bigger, it’s smooth in the mouth but then the Nelson Sauvin hops batter and bombard your tongue left, right and centre. There’s a buttery biscuity sweetness in there amongst the citrusy hops then there’s a sharp bitterness that lasts ages and makes your tongue tingle, It’s one of those beers that leaves you wondering if you will be able to taste your next drink.

For me it’s the best beer available in my local Morrisons, pipping Sierra Nevada Pale Ale to the title but only just.

If you have a Morrisons near you then get straight down there and buy some, if they don’t have it, ask them why then plead with them to stock it.

Sounds excellent, I checked my local Morrisons on Monday but the shelves were completely lacking in BrewDog (not even a gap for them).

I hope they start to stock it, I’ve found the Ormskirk branch has a better beer selection than the Southport one, even though Southport is a larger town.

Think I’m going to have to do an almost daily check so that I don’t get caught out by people like your dad! ;)

Hmm, I hope your local isn’t the one in Camden, or that will scupper my recently-assembled plan.

Must admit it was worth buying what little stock they had. Loved it and hope they continue to stock it.

I did the very same thing on Monday. Sheffield (Hillsborough) has it in. I am a pale ale fan but this is emmence. It’s a must for any beer fanatic. Punk IPA and Trashy Blonde are also amazing.

I think 5am Saint is my favourite Brewdog at the moment. Its always great in the bottle and the hops come alive on draught. During the Brewdog “Meet the Brewer” event at Sheffield Tap I enjoyed two pints despite the amazing range available. Sweet chewy malts and potent hop punch, love it!

I know its late but I’ll check Morrisons myself. Recently stayed at a pub in Twyford that has 3 Brewdogs on tap at all times – Saint came on while I was there and it is just stunning for hop lovers. They had a meet the brewer a couple of weeks back too – just wish more pubs stocked Brewdog’s range.

Andy if you like 5am saint and Sierra Nevada pale ale you should get a hold of sierra nevadas Torpedo IPA – if you haven’t already tried it.

sierra nevada torpedo is a regular in my beer cupboard, love the stuff although my fave is probably either bigfoot or celebration.
