1. Best UK Draught (Cask or Keg) Beer Hawkshead NZ Pale Ale – Truly delicious and stupidly drinkable. Second place goes to Summer Wine Nettle and Ginger Saison and Third goes to Hill Island ThaIPA.
2. Best UK Bottled or Canned Beer Roosters Babyfaced Assasin, The bottle is one of the sexiest out there, it was amazing fresh and even the OOD bottle that the Fozzards (or was it me?) carted round Newcastle at Twissup was just as tasty. Closely followed by Magic Rock Human Cannonball, Summer Wine Baristam Sharp’s amazing Honey IPA and Buxton Axe Edge.
3. Best Overseas Draught Beer De Molen Hot and Spicy at GBBF, The best chilli beer I’ve ever had, closely followed by the raft of sour beers and Kriek I supped at GBBF
4. Best Overseas Bottled or Canned Beer Hornbeer Black Magic Woman, followed by Orval and then Cantillon St Lamvinus
5. Best Overall Beer Orval, Fresh or aged it simply is one of the best beers going, one I’ve never got sick of drinking.

   Best Pumpclip or Label Pandazilla spotted at the Free Trade Inn at Twissup Newcastle.

7. Best UK Brewery This is a really tough one there are some great breweries out there at the moment but it’s between Summer Wine, Kernel, Durham, Adnams and Hawkshead.
8. Best Overseas Brewery De molen, I’ve enjoyed virtually everything I’ve drank from the little windmill.
9. Pub/Bar of the Year A Tie between The Free Trade Inn and Bacchus, I could happily spend all day in either one closely followed by Hawkshead Beer Hall
10. Beer Festival of the Year I’ve only been to one proper one this year and that was GBBF
11. Supermarket of the Year Booths – even though I don’t have one locally, every time I visit one I always end up buying loads  of beer.
12. Independent Retailer of the Year Beer Ritz, Lots has changed at Beer Ritz in 2010 but the customer service and range of beers are great, both online and in store.
13. Online Retailer of the Year Beermerchants – Great range of beers from all around the world, usually the first to get stuff in.
14. Best Beer Book or Magazine Tough one, but my favourite book of the year did feature beer (only briefly) it’s called the Hills are stuffed with Swedish girls, buy it read it and laugh out loud.
15. Best Beer Blog or Website Reluctant Scooper, never fails to make me laugh.
16. Best Beer Twitterer Simonhjohnson, by a country mile.
17. Best Online Brewery presence Breweries are starting to realise its more important to be seen online, so my pints go to Adnams, Summer Wine, Hardknott, Buxton and Magic Rock
18. Food and Beer Pairing of the Year Hardknott Vitesse Noir and Chocolate Tart at the Cumbrian Beer Appreciation Do
19. In 2012 I’d Most Like To.. Got to Nottingham Beer festival, build more brewery websites and not get too drunk at my wedding
20. Cider of the Year Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon whether it’s £2 a pint in Wetherspoons or £2 a half in Chester Brewery Tap I really do love this cider.

1. Best UK Draught Beer – This was a tough one, I’ve had some mind blowing British Cask ales this year, from Thornbridge Halcyon and Marble Dobber to Harviesoun Ola Dubh and Brewdog Edge and many others but I’m going to give my golden pint to Thwaites Wainwright, It was the perfect beer after walking from Ingleby cross to Blakey Ridge on the Coast to Coast, the first 2 pints didn’t touch the sides.
2. Best UK Bottled Beer - Marble Vuur & Vlam, closely followed by Brewdog Abstrakt AB:04 and Sharps Monsieur-Rock, there’s too many other great ones to mention.
3. Best Overseas Draught Beer - Stone Ruination IPA at Twissup back in January
4. Best Overseas Bottled Beer- Mikkeller Burger and Bun LA Lager followed by De Molen Amarillo, Russian River’s Pliny the Elder, and Birrificio Italiano Tipopils
5. Best Overall Beer – Marble  Vuur & Vlam
6. Best Pumpclip or Label – Brewdog Bashah Reserve for their stunning hand drawn labels closely followed by Yorkshire Dales Brewing Co – love all their labels and pumpclips.
7. Best UK Brewery – This was probably the hardest one to choose, I’ve had some excellent beers from all over the country, but for sheer drinkablity and low ABV beers I’m giving it to Yorkshire Dales Brewing Co and runner up to Kernel Brewery.
8. Best Overseas Brewery – This could have gone to any one of the American Breweries I’ve had beers from this year or to someone like Cantillion or De Molen but I’m giving it to Mikkeller as they never cease to amaze me.
9. Pub/Bar of the Year – I’ve visited some truley great pubs this year, especially during the coast to coast walk, but my favourite has to be the Rat Race Ale House.
10. Beer Festival of the Year – GBBF without question, it was fantastic, it had an amazing array of beers a mini farmers market for food and the best pork scratchings ever.
11. Supermarket of the Year-  Morrisons as my local has started selling Sierra Nevada and Brewdog along with White shield and a couple of other tasty brews.
12. Independent Retailer of the Year - Beer Ritz Leeds followed by The Wineyard Deli and Wines and Spirits in Knaresborough.
13. Online Retailer of the Year – Again a tough one, I’ve bought a lot of beer online this year from places like Beer Ritz, My Brewery Tap, Beers of Europe, wines and Spirits and Ales by Mail but the winner has to be Beermerchants.com for their fab range and ability to constantly get beers from places like Mikkeller, Kernel and little craft places I’ve not heard of.
14. Best Beer Book or Magazine – Cheers North East.
15. Best Beer Blog or Website - Stuart Howe’s Brewing Reality, despite him putting a naked picture of himself on there recently.
16. Best Beer Twitterer –  too many to mention, twitter wouldn’t be the same without a lot of people, check out the people I follow and follow them, special note has to go to the Hardnott crew though as they are always entertaining.
17. Best Brewery Online – SW Brewery followed by Thornbridge and Adnams
18. Food and Beer Pairing of the Year – Brie, Bacon and Cranberry stottie with Northern Bitters followed by Mikkeller Burger & Bun L.A. Lager and home made burger.
19. In 2011 I’d Most Like To – Go on a beery adventure abroad, go to Borefts Bier Festival or The Weekend of Spontaneous Fermentation, brew another chilli beer with a  brewery and manage a meet the brewer every week.
20. Open Category: Best Beery TV program – Brew masters!

We’ve come up with 20 categories to try and find the best of the best from 2009. All you need to do is copy the categories and give your answers in your own blog post. Next Year I’d Most Like To…

For the Best Beer choices you can give an honourable mention to any runners-up, if you wish. The Online Interactive Brewery Presence should be the brewery who you think embraces social media in the best way (we’re an online community so let’s champion the best of the rest of the online beer community). The food and beer ‘pairing’ of the year could be a slap up dinner or it could be a bag of peanuts, whatever you thought was the best. The Open Category allows you to write your own category and answer (Bargain of the Year, Beer Drinker of the Year, Beer Moment of the Year, etc, anything you like). Next Year I’d Most Like To… is another open category, maybe you want to go to GBBF or GABF or Belgium, maybe you want to start homebrewing, maybe it’s just drink more great beer, whatever you hope 2010 has in store. And use links too, so if you’ve written about a beer which you think is the Best UK Bottle then stick a link to your blog on it.

Let’s get them all published by the end of 2009 so we can start a fresh on the 1st January and look forward to the beer delights that 2010 has to offer.
