Last year I was lucky enough to be sent a few bottles of Daas Organic beers which I really enjoyed (see here). So when They said they were sending me some of their new much anticipated Ambre beer I was quite excited.

For those of you that aren’t familiar with Daas,

Daas Ambre a great summers day thirst quencher

they are premium organic Belgian beers, that use fresh Wallonian spring water, organic wheat and barley so their beers are certified organic by the Belgian and UK Soil association.

The new Ambre beer weighs in at 6.5% ABV which is the same as Daas Blonde. Daas Ambre pours a lot darker than the blonde, as you would expect, it smells lovely, quite sweet and fruity, there is banana and toffee on the nose with hints of spice and possibly a bit of cinnamon.

In the mouth it feels great, just the right amount of carbonation gives it an almost silky quality, it laces your mouth with malty caramel banana. The spice from the nose come through which balance really well with the sweetness and prevents it from being too sweet.

The balance results in a really drinkable, refreshing beer, I sat and supped this in the garden on a hot sunny day and it went down a treat, I could have quite happily polished a few more bottles of, It’s one of those beers that really does quench your thirst, isn’t too complicated and best suits sunny afternoons in the garden, although the 6.5% is hidden really so I would advise not using it as a session beer…

These two beauties were very kindly sent to me by @daas_beer on twitter. You might not have guessed it from here but I do love belgian beers and Belgian style beers and I tend to drink them a lot in the summer, the problem (if you can call it that) lately has been that I have had lots of good beers in so have been drinking those.

Daas Blonde and Witte

Daas Beers are premium organic Belgian beers, that use fresh Wallonian spring water, organic wheat and barley so are both certified organic by the Belgian and UK Soil association.

Last night we were feeling lazy and decided to get a Thai takeaway, nothing too spicy for a change just something tasty. I wasn’t quite sure if the two Daas beers would go with them or not but thought i’d give it a go.

I started off with the blonde – possibly a silly thing to do with it being the stronger of the two beers at 6.5%, It is made from malted barley and this gave it a lovely golden colour, it was quite cloudy, but that usually comes with the territory, it had quite a frothy head which must come from the secondary fermentation in the bottle, it smelt quite sweet, possibly of honey and fudge, It tasted sweet, a little bit hoppy with a hint of flowery citrus and a tiny little bit of bitterness. I found it really drinkable, which is great although im not sure your head would thank you in the morning.

I passed the glass to Emily for a try as I thought she might like it, unlike me she isn’t a big Belgian beer fan, but surprisingly she loved the Daas Blonde and I had a job getting the glass back off her, so I decided to crack open the Witte.

Daas Witte is a wheat based beer, again it poured cloudy with a smaller head (probably my poor technique), you could immediately smell that it was a wheat beer, it also smelt quite fruity and not as sweet as the Blonde.

Daas Blonde

It tasted fresh, fruity, spicy and slightly flowery.

I passed the glass to Emliy, she wasn’t keen on this one she said it was too “Wheaty” which I kind of expected her to say, it was also great for me as it meant I could finish the rest of the bottle

I don’t think its as complicated as the Blonde but it was actually my favourite of the two, having said that I could have quite happily sat and drank a few bottles of both

As for the Thai Takeaway, it was fantastic as always and the beer went suprisingly well with it, complimenting the chilli and cutting through the richness of the sauce. [ED: Eat with squid chow mein or chilli salt potatoes]

Daas Witte

I’m not sure where you can get either of the beers yet but it is worth keeping an eye on @daas_beer on twitter as they

usually tweet about where it is going on sale, hopefully I will be able to get a few more bottles from the supermarket soon.

For more info check out they pretty cool website @ www.daasbeer.com

PS the postcard that came with the beer was very nice and shall be placed on my desk for ever more – well until Emily sees it and chucks it in the bin
