Flying Dog Classic Pale Ale (Doggie Style) (5.5%)

I’ve been a fan of Flying Dog beers for a while but they are a bit of a pain to get hold of, luckily Tesco have now started to stock two of them so they are easy to get hold of  (thanks to eurodog and bierenco, if u can’t find it get it from beermerchants)

Classic pale ale is also known as Doggie Style, depending on where you buy it, the name has apparently been changed to suit a mass market and keep the rather silly Portman Group.

I have had the beer a few times now but the particular bottle that i am reviewing today was drank on the beach in the sun and paired with a cracking portion of fish and chips, it really doesn’t get much better than that.

As a result of a day in my rucksack it was quite warm, in my opinion this created a completely different beer.

Chilled the beer still packs a punch but personally i think it takes the edge off it, by warming it up it makes a good beer become a great beer.

It’s quite fizzy without being overly so, it is very well hopped (but not as hoppy as something like a Mikkeller Stateside IPA) so it leaves your tongue tingling without being overly bitter, it has a hint of grapefruit and quite a lot of  malty caramel, this is definitely more prominent when it’s warm.

Personally i really loved this beer, yes its not as hoppy and lip smacking as some of the pale ale’s doing the rounds, it suited being supped on the beach with a portion of fish and chips and the sun shining.

It’s great being able to go into Tesco and actually buy a beer like this, it opens up a whole new world to a lot of beer lovers and i have already recommended it to friends and family.

I also really like the branding of the Flying dog ales, its right up there with the Brewdog, Dent and watermill inn branding for me. It’s certainly different and quite funky with some great illustrations.
