salopian vertigo

Salopian brewery make one of my favourite beers in Darwin’s Origin so when they got in touch and asked if I fancied trying their 7.2%  Vertigo there was no way I was going to decline. I didn’t know much about the beer so was a bit surprised when it poured as dark as it did [...]

Badger wandering woodwose

Every now and then something unexpectedly arrives in, more often than not it’s a bill of some kind, fortuatnely this time it was something a lot more exciting…..an 8% beer from Badger, yes that’s an 8% beer from Badger, it’s not every day they release one of those. The name comes from a local legend [...]

I’ll be honest there’s not many places round here to buy decent bottled beer, whether it be local or from further a field. There is the odd shop like Whistle Stop Wines in Saltburn and of course the supermarkets have the odd beer, even B&M gets the odd bottle of decent ale in now and [...]

My final dish at Sharps Connoisseur Cook off

A couple of weeks ago I received an email asking if I was available to take part in the Sharp’s connoisseur choice cook off final, apparently the recipe I’d submitted on Sharp’s Facebook pagehad been chosen by 2 michelin star chef Nathan Outlaw to represent him in the final. It seemed like far too good of an [...]

Sharp’s Cornish Pilsner

Sharp's Cornish Pilsner

Sharp’s Brewery recently launched Cornish Pilsner, in collaboration with the Eden Project, for me It had a lot to live up to as I was a huge fan of Monsieur Rock that they brewed a while back and is now no longer available. For the Pilsner Head brewer  Stuart Howe used whole Saaz hops and [...]

st-austell-logo

St Austell are a brewery I’ve admired for ages, but fell head over heels for when we were on honeymoon in Cornwall back in April. As you can imagine they have a lot of pubs in Cornwall and just about everywhere sells some of their beer. The St Austell pubs we visited were great, most of them [...]

Marquee hire

Beer has been one of the oldest drinks we know and comes with so many different tastes and types unlike any other beverage, you can drink a beer with your friends or alone. When you organise a party it is important that you choose the right beers to be served for your guests, as it can set a mood but sometimes when you can go all out you can serve a variety of beers in kegs but it might be handy to have a marquee. There are several companies that specialize in Marquee hire, this sets the mood and everyone can enjoy their glass of beer in a great atmosphere. Bottoms up!
