This was one of the beers kindly sent over by @hogsbackbrewery. It was the only one out of the selection they sent that I had previously tried so I thought i would share it at the Beer bloggers day out.
The bottle is gives a very upmarket feel, especially with the cool gold CAMRA cap cover.
At 9% its bordering on barley wine territory, in fact I think Hogs back class it as a barley wine.
It pours a dark brown with a hint of red, the head was pretty decent, the beer smelt of apples and sugar, which was quite deceptive as i was expecting the beer to be really sweet after that.
But it didn’t taste as sweet as i thought, it was rich and quite heavy, yet still quite smooth.
There was a definite taste fruit and caramel with only the slightest hint of alcohol and bitterness at the end, which meant it went down quite easily but it wasn’t something you could drink pints of, hence the little bottle.
I’m not sure what Dan thought of it, to be honest I’m not sure he knows what he thought of it as he may have had one to many by the time the bottle was opend, luckily i had my phone so recorded some notes.
A over T stands apparently stands for Aromas over Tongham, personally I think it would be better off called Arse over Tit, as that’s how you would end up if you had any more than a bottle.
It’s a beer you should add to your list to try if you like something a bit stronger and fruitier, it would also make a great Christmas or winter beer.
